Celebrate the New Year with Literature Around the World!

To wish you all good health and joyful reading in the Year of the Ox, we are delighted to share a whirlwind virtual journey around the world. “Literature Live Around the World” (LLAW) is a 12-hour programme of free literary events from 12 nations offering a one-hour segment introducing that region’s literary scene and some of its most interesting authors. The Hong Kong International Literary Festival is a co-sponsor and local partner. Organized and produced by LitFestBergen (Norway), the free programme is now available to watch on YouTube.

The free 12-hour programme, which ran live in its entirety on Feb. 12, now available on demand until Feb. 27, devotes one hour to each nation’s festival to present some of that region’s most interesting authors. The Bay Area Book Festival represented the United States with authors Dave Egger and Vendela Vida, moderator Daniel Gumbiner, and BABF director and host Cherilyn Parsons.

This extraordinary feat of literary cooperation has been created and produced by LitFestBergen in Norway, which opens the programme with Karl Ove Knausgård and other authors. The 10 other festivals come from Buenos Aires, Argentina; Dubai, UAE; Edinburgh, Scotland; Jaipur, India; Kabul, Afghanistan; Lagos, Nigeria; Lyon, France; Perth, Australia; Toronto, Canada; and Treasure Beach, Jamaica. The full programme schedule, complete with event descriptions and featured author biographies is available here. The full programme has been segmented into chapters so you can dip in whenever you like, picking and choosing what “destinations” you want to visit. The programme is free to watch at this link, and will be available through 27 February at 12.00 (pm) (UTC +1).
