Fifth Round of Authors to Appear at 2019 HKILF

We are thrilled to announce our fifth round of authors who will appear at the 2019 HKILF!

 

Chen Qiufan

Chen Qiufan is a Chinese speculative fiction writer, translator, creative producer and curator. He is the author of the award-winning Waste Tide. He now lives in Beijing and Shanghai and is the founder of Thema Mundi Studio, which focuses on sci-fi content development.

陳楸帆是一名國內知名的科幻作家、翻譯家、創意製片人和策展人。他亦是得獎小說《荒潮》的作者。他現居於北京及上海,並創立了專注發展科幻內容的Thema Mundi Studio。

 

Matthew Polly

Matthew Polly is the national bestselling author of American Shaolin, Tapped Out, and Bruce Lee: A Life. A Princeton University graduate and Rhodes Scholar, he spent two years studying kung fu at the Shaolin Temple in Henan, China. His writings have appeared in The Washington Post, Esquire, Slate, Playboy, and The Nation. He is a fellow at Yale University and is currently living in New Haven, Connecticut.

Chenssie Henry

Chessie Henry is the author of We Can Make A Life, a family memoir which was recently awarded the E.H. McCormick Prize for General Non-Fiction at the 2019 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her personal essays have been published on The Spinoff and The Wireless, and she has an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters. She lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she works as a Content Specialist for Brown Bread, an agency specialising in philanthropy and the arts.

Dana Thomas

We’re also excited to present Dana Thomas, the author of Gods and Kings and the New York Times bestseller, Deluxe. She began her career writing for the Style section of The Washington Post and she has served as a cultural and fashion correspondent for Newsweek in Paris. She is a regular contributor to the New York Times Style section and has written for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, WSJ, The Financial Times, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Architectural Digest and Elle Decor, and was the European editor of Condé Nast Portfolio. She lives in Paris.

Jennifer 8 Lee

A former New York Times reporter, Jennifer 8 Lee is the author of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, a #25 New York Times bestseller about the Americanization of Chinese food. She is also a journalist, documentary producer, seed investor, and emoji activist. She serves on the boards of the Digital Public Library for America, the Pulitzer-winning, non-profit news organizations Center for Public Integrity and InsideClimate News, the Roxie Theater in San Francisco, the Nieman Foundation at Harvard, and the Asian American Writers’ Workshop.

Lindsay Varty

Lindsay Varty is a half-British, half-Macanese woman raised in Hong Kong. Now a writer and professional rugby player for the city, she lives and breathes Hong Kong and is fascinated by its culture and history. Her parents wanted their children to discover the real Hong Kong and to know its people. Sunset Survivors is a tribute to that wish.

華蓮絲是一位在香港長大的英葡混血女性,也是一名作家和本地專業橄欖球運動員。她從小在香港長大的經歷使她被本地文化和歷史深深吸引。她的父母曾希望自己的孩子能真正瞭解香港文化和生長在那裡的人民。她的作品《夕陽餘暉》正是向這願望致敬。
