Celebrate National Poetry Month with Us!

April 11, 2022

You can find poetry in your everyday life, your memory, in what people say on the bus, in the news, or just what’s in your heart. —Carol Ann Duffy

Poetry is not only a fine artistry of wordsmithing, but also a form of expression, an outlet of emotions, communicating feelings and creating resonance between us. On National Poetry Month, we invite you to look back at some poetic moments in past ILFs!

Since 2020, we have been partnering with Writing+ to organise school poetry contests for young poets from primary to high schools in Hong Kong. Our theme for each year was inspired by iconic poets with Hong Kong heritage: Marilyn Chin’s Urban Love Poem in 2020 and Mary Jean Chan’s Wish in 2021. Read winning entries of past poetry writing competitions from young writers around Hong Kong in the links below:

Other than the school contest, every year’s ILF will make sure to have several poetry events in the programme, including talks and panels given by new and established poets from around the globe, and many of them have been recorded and publicised on our Youtube Channel. You can now revisit past poetry events and listen to author readings and discussions, such as Bhanu Kapil in Conversation, An Ocean Away featuring Alia Al Shamsi and Jennifer Wong, and more!
