The Hong Kong International Literary Festival is delighted to confirm the appointment of Fiona Chung as the new Festival Director.

Fiona was Project Director for the recent Young Reader’s Festival and has already hit the ground running on preparations for this year’s adult Festival in November. Fiona is Hong Kong born, tri-lingual and the holder of two PhDs from Hong Kong University, in American Poetry and Music Composition. She has previously worked as Executive Secretary for the United World College Hong Kong Committee and co-ordinated the work of the ground-breaking HKU Black Box initiative. Fiona will bring a highly informed international and local perspective to her work as Festival Director, and strong connections in the Hong Kong cultural, commercial and philanthropic community. This year’s Young Reader’s Festival reached over 10,000 students, growing over 50% from 2018.

‘The Hong Kong International Literary Festival Board is extremely excited to be working with Fiona over the next phase of our ambitious growth strategy’, said co- Chairs Angela Mackay and Simon Westcott. ‘We have a sharp eye on increased impact for the Lit Fest leading up to our 20th anniversary in 2020; Fiona’s dynamism, innovation, deep roots in Hong Kong and highly-informed international vision will play the critical part in helping us get there’.

The Board is also pleased to confirm the dates for this year’s Festival, which will take place between Friday 1 November to Sunday 10 November 2019. The Board has decided to program this year’s Festival with a number of partner institutions across Hong Kong, and will base itself at the Fringe Club.

The Hong Kong International Literary Festival is Hong Kong’s premier literary organisation, hosting two Festivals annually – the Young Reader’s Festival in March and the International Literary Festival in November. In the last 12 months, over 57 authors and moderators from 13 countries have taken part in a variety of panels, lectures, performances and school visits for a combined audiences of over 16,000.
