Announcing Our New Executive Director
April 22, 2020
It is with great pleasure that we announce the Board’s decision to appoint Catherine Platt as our new Festival Director.
Currently the co-Director and Founder of the Montclair Literary Festival in New Jersey, Catherine counts many of the world’s top authors, entertainers and thinkers as guests at her events. As the former Director of the Bookworm International Literary Festival in Chengdu for four years, and with a wealth of experience managing cultural and educational projects in China, she also brings a deep and intimate knowledge of the Chinese-speaking world of literature and ideas. In both positions she has earned a reputation as a builder of robust relationships throughout the literary and funding communities and as a driver of strong growth. As a long-term resident of China with roots in the UK and US, Catherine is perfectly situated to lead and transform the Hong Kong International Literary Festival in its 20th anniversary year and in the years ahead.
While visa arrangements are underway and current coronavirus travel restrictions remain in place, Catherine will work remotely from the US as a Festival Consultant. She will join the team in Hong Kong at the earliest opportunity.
Catherine joins the HKILF Assistant Manager, Ann Chan, and a wonderful team of interns and volunteers. Planning for a (reconceptualised) YRF 2020 and our 20th Anniversary Celebrations later this year is in full swing!
