Teacher, Christian Alliance College

For a CMI school like ours, the students were naturally quiet and shy during the session but this kind of session really opens students’ eyes.

Many thanks to the Australian Consulate who made it possible for our students to prolifically participate in the Festival. Please DO continue the subsidy program, so more local students like ours can be blessed.

For many of the students, this was the first time they met someone so excited their work, especially because the person was not just a doctor, lawyer or accountant. It gave them a glimpse of other possibilities on definitions of success, doing something meaningful and the impact of Chinese people on a western country.

After the workshop, they learned what micro fiction is and felt confident that they can apply what they learned in their English lessons. They reflected that the workshop further enhanced their interest in reading and writing. They would also recommend their friend(s) to attend future workshops of similar nature.

I think having famous writers visit schools and conducting workshops with students absolutely helps promote ‘literature’ and writing in Hong Kong. We really appreciate such an arrangement because it brings such convenience to us, both the teachers and students.

The student participants all praised the workshop, impressed by Ben’s impromptu poetry performance. Their perspective on poetry and writing in general has also been changed, being inspired by Ben’s creativity and originality. They also learnt about life in general from Ben, which they enjoyed too.

Perhaps if budget allows, 1.5 or 2 hrs workshop could be arranged as the workshop speaker can spend more time talking about some tips/techniques on writing poetry before getting to a question-answer session?

Thanks for the visit of Benjamin Zephaniah to our school, a truly eye-opening experience for all the students and teachers who were present at the presentation. We were most impressed by Benjamin’s passion, creativity and love for the English language. The message in his poems also has inspired our teenagers to think more independently and critically. We thank him for his books, too.

I would just like to say that our classes really enjoyed the author session yesterday. I thought it was very well organized and planned. We especially liked the interactive nature of the session. Thanks for putting on a good show!
