You can access the events by clicking on the “Watch Now” links posted on the events page or our Facebook page which will only be available on the day of the events.

I CANNOT PLAY THE VIDEO. WHAT CAN I DO?

If the video says “restricted”, it is possibly because you are using the restricted mode on YouTube. Visit this article to learn how to turn off your restricted mode on YouTube. If you need any help, contact us on info@festival.org.hk.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF THE 2020 HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL YOUNG READERS FESTIVAL?

Information for the Young Reader’s Festival Virtual Events is already published on our website.

WHERE DOES THE FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?

We will have a series of virtual events that will be streamed on Youtube from 1 to 12 June. Visit our events page for more information.

DO I NEED TICKETS TO ATTEND PUBLIC EVENTS?

Yes.

CAN I DONATE TO THE FESTIVAL?

Yes! As a charitable organization, we rely on the generosity of individuals and corporations to keep the Festival going from year to year. Please click here to learn more.

HOW ARE WRITERS CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FESTIVAL?

The Festival operates on an invitation-only basis and invitations are issued at the discretion of the Festival Manager and Board of Directors. Each year the Festival hears from authors wishing to speak at the Festival or from publishers and other people interested in putting forward an idea for the Festival programme. The Festival organisers do take the time to consider whether these unsolicited submissions, requests or pitches will fit into the Festival’s themes and mission. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reply to each and every request.

CAN YOU PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH AN AUTHOR ON THE PROGRAMME ?

For privacy reasons, we do not pass on contact details for authors attending the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. The best way to contact our guest authors is to attend their events: book signings almost always follow their talks. Alternatively, you may contact the authors through their publisher or agent.

HOW CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME?

The Schools Programme is a major component of both the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival and the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. For more information, please click here.

DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEERS?

Yes! Festival Volunteers are a vital and valued part of the Festival. Volunteers are often the first point of contact for the public as well as for many of our writers. As a volunteer, you will gain valuable experience working for one of the world’s finest literary events, and have the opportunity to witness inspiring sessions and to meet other great volunteers. Visit our volunteers page to learn more.

I AM A WRITER. CAN I PRESENT MY WORK AT THE FESTIVAL?

Invitations are issued at the discretion of the Festival Director and Board of Advisors, who create the programme well ahead of each Festival. Each year the Festival receives lots of unsolicited submissions from authors wishing to speak at the Festival or people putting forward an idea for the programme. We welcome these suggestions, but due to the large number of unsolicited submissions received, we are unable to respond to every submission or return materials sent for consideration.

For Schools

WHEN WILL THE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME BE ANNOUNCED?

The Schools Programme has been canceled. Join our mailing list to stay up-to-date on all the latest news.

WHAT HAPPENS AT AN AUTHOR VISIT?

Our authors visit schools to give talks and workshops on various topics including writing, culture, creativity, adolescence, translation etc. Talks usually last for an hour and workshops an hour and a half, but the sessions can be tailored to accommodate the needs of the school. However, in light of the global pandemic, we will not be hosting any author visits this year.

HOW DO WE MAKE BOOKINGS FOR OUR SCHOOL?

Our 2020 Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival Schools Programme has been canceled. To make a booking in the future, please fill in the booking form found at the bottom of the school’s pack here and follow the instructions on the sheet. A final confirmation of the success of your booking will be made once we have collected all forms.

I UNDERSTAND THAT YRF OFFERS A SUBSIDY TO SOME SCHOOLS. CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS?

Government and aided schools are eligible for our School Subsidy Scheme which subsidises author visits. An application can be made by submitting the subsidy application together with your booking form. Both documents are found in the Schools Programme pack which can be downloaded on this page. We are unable to guarantee a subsidy or know how much we can offer ahead of time; decisions will be made after reviewing the form.
