Meira Chand’s latest novel A Different Sky (2010) is set in colonial Singapore and covers an era of thirty years in Singapore’s pre-independence history. It was voted by the UK bookshop chain Waterstones as their Cardholders’ Book Circle Choice for July 2010. Her multi-cultural heritage is reflected in her novels, which explore the issues of identity and cultural dislocation and the position of the existential outsider. From 2000-2002, she served as the chairperson for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for the South Pacific and South East Asia.
