Brian Castro is an Australian novelist and essayist. He has published nine novels, as well as a body of essays on literary topics. His book Shanghai Dancing won the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Fiction, and the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards Christina Stead Fiction Prize and Book of the Year.   His most recent novel is The Bath Fugues (2009), which was shortlisted for the 2010 Miles Franklin Award. He is currently Chair of Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide.
