Betty Jamie Chung was born in Chungking and began her life as bombs were being dropped in the war capital. After the war, she and her family moved first to Shanghai and eventually settled in Hong Kong. Chung received her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Victoria in Canada. She now lives in Hong Kong and is the author of Life Recipes from My Mother.
