"'Tis the good reader that makes the good book." Ralph Waldo Emerson

The impact that journalists, travel writers, novelists and essayists have on each of us is unquantifiable. The 2008 Festival celebrates that impact, and aims to introduce more words and ideas to all of us. Authors will discuss their thoughts and ideas on Islam in a series of sessions entitled Islam, Asia and the Modern World. Hear about travels and history Along the Silk Road. Debut novelists who write about contemporary Japan or 17th century Syria will be side by side with established icons of the literary world.

The Festival commits to investing in the readers and writers of the future. The Schools Programme is a very popular component of the Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival. Every year we invite students to experience a wonderful programme that allows them to interact with, learn from and be inspired by acclaimed, popular and beloved authors.

By presenting a programme that allows readers and writers of all ages to interact, we wish to encourage an appreciation of the written word and to foster a love of literature. We hope that the 2008 Festival will have a lasting impact on all who attend.

The 2008 Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival is set to be a fantastic event. Enjoy!
